Working
together to produce books that abide... Other
Services- There's an old
saying that "you can't tell a book by its cover." But that is
exactly how the majority of readers will decide if they are going to give
your book a closer look. A poor design or a canned template can destroy
the book's credibility no matter how well written it is. Your book's cover
has about two seconds to make an impression, so it must be eye-catching
and unique. With your input, we will design a custom cover for your book
that will make buyers want to find out what is inside. You will have a
choice between two design concepts, and you will be able to make reasonable
revisions to the concept you choose.
Once your book is ready, the world needs to know! A strong press kit could get your story in local newspapers and secure radio interviews, as well as giving you a stab at a review in that coveted magazine or e-zine. Kit includes the following items:
Press release
A press release should have a specific angle, so you may want different versions for different audiences. Send us a 100-word summary of your manuscript and the details about the media you're planning to target, and our copywriter will write a customized press release for your book.
One-page bio
Send whatever you have to work with. A resume is good, but you'll also need to flesh it out. People like a good story, so don't be afraid to get personal. Our copywriter will write 10 questions designed to get interviewers talking and to lead them to the topics you want to discuss. This 80- to 100-word
promotional summary of your book plus a 50-word bio is appropriate for
catalogs and for website descriptions, such as at Amazon.com. The package
usually includes a 20-word trade summary, a 30-word consumer summary,
and a 10- to 15-word consumer summary. However, our copywriter can tailor
these summaries to fit whatever kind of advertising or promotion you're
planning to do. Other marketing copy Contact us if you have other marketing needs that don't fall into these categories.
Publishing requires a lot of paperwork. Every process requires you to fill out a form and pay a filing fee. Most also require you to send a hard copy of your manuscript. If you publish your book with Abiding Books, we will take care of all of this for you. Specifically, we will: Convert your manuscript into text file format and code it with the tags the Library of Congress requires for CIP Data and Library Card Catalog Number and forward an electronic and hard copy to the Publisher Liaison at the Library. This will enable you to receive the CIP data needed for your book. Fill out the ISBN application and assign an ISBN to your title. Design a barcode EAN and forward it along with your ISBN to your cover designer. Register your ISBN at R.R. Bowker and ensure that your title is listed in Books in Print. File an application for the copyright and mail a hard copy of your manuscript to the Library of Congress. Negotiate the discount schedule and terms for wholesalers, retailers, distributors, and book clubs, as well as Single Order Title Plan (STOP) terms, and send them to the American Booksellers Association (ABA). List any forthcoming titles you may have with Abiding Books at ABA. Having your book printed is one of the two most expensive items in your publishing budget. Your two basic options are offset printing and digital printing. Which you use depends on how concerned you are with quality, how many books you want to sell, and how much you are willing and able to invest in the printing process. If you want fewer than 500 copies of your book, digital printing is probably the more cost effective. If you want more than that, it will be less expensive to use an offset printer, and the quality will most likely be better. One important thing to remember about print on demand (POD) publishing is that each book costs the same regardless of how many books you have printed. With offset printing, however, the price per book decreases dramatically as the number of books printed increases. When your book is ready for printing, we will explain your options and help you find the printer that best meets your needs. We will locate the best bid and set up your printing job. We do not mark up printing fees. Fee: Your cost will be what your printer charges to print your books and ship them to where you plan to store them. Storage and order fulfillment Marketing is the second of the two most expensive items in your publishing budget, and it starts at the beginning of the publishing process, not at the end. You should plan to spend as much to get your book to potential buyers as you do to have it printed. Abiding Books can custom design a marketing package that suits your needs. Abiding Books will design a
template and set up a web page for you. It is a lot easier to sell a revised edition of the same book than it is to write a brand new one. If your book already has a reputation or a niche in the market, why let it die? Keep your book alive by updating the content and design. If the content of your book is fine, but you'd like to update its look, consider a repack.
